GEM - Global Entrepreneurship Monitor

Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) is the world's largest and longest-standing research programme on entrepreneurial activity. GEM was initiated in 1999. Since the beginning, Denmark has participated every year. Every year telephone interviews are made with a representative proportion of the populations (at least 2,000 interviewees per country) in 30-40 countries. They are asked about their attitudes towards entrepreneurship and their engagement in entrepreneurial activity. Moreover, interviews are conducted with 30-40 experts in entrepreneurship, selected in a manner so they cover the nine framework conditions considered important by GEM, for instance government programmes, education and training, and funding. Based on this, an annual report is made in each of the countries. In addition a global report that compares the situation across the countries is made.
